Meet our 2019 Miracle Child: Norah Kerr!

Do you ever wonder WHO we are raising money for? Here at Valley Children’s Hospital, we want to help you put a face to the cause we are fundraising for!

Meet Norah Kerr – our 2019 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Champion.

Norah is the spunkiest 6 (almost 7) year old you will ever meet! She has been a warrior from before she was even born. At 18 weeks gestation, Norah was diagnosed with the Dandy-Walker variant, but she has never let that or her other diagnoses slow her down. She is a dancer, pageant girl, cheerleader and an Instagrammer (@realnorahk!) She loves to dance with or without her wheelchair, especially when she hears her favorite Jojo Siwa song!

Norah was born with Spina Bifida. Over the years, doctors found she also had Cranio Cerebellar Cardiac Dysplasia. With these diagnoses, came heart, kidney, bladder and gastro-intestinal issues. In her young life, Norah has seen almost every specialty at Valley Children’s. But if you met her, you wouldn’t have any idea she was fighting these diagnoses. Her radiant smile and endless energy emanates her strength and positivity.

And where does Norah get her strength from? No doubt her family is her foundation. The Kerrs are a very close family with mom, Amanda, dad, David, and Norah’s 4-year-old sister, Tessa. Amanda and David are incredibly committed to their children. They are her biggest cheerleaders and encouragers. With her family’s support, Norah knows she can do anything and everything she puts her mind into. Her parents are a strong team who love their children and it shows!

Norah and Amanda have fond memories and experiences at Valley Children’s Hospital. They say when they walk in; they feel happy and excited, sometimes nervous, but mostly happy. Amanda says, “This hospital is like home. We know Norah is going to be welcomed here with open arms.”

When I asked Norah what she wants to be when she grows up, she said, “Everything! I want to be a doctor at Valley Children’s! I also want to work at Disneyland!”

Amanda jokes, “Norah’s going to pay her way through medical school by working the Disneyland carousel.” Amanda also hopes Norah’s future consists of her making progress and staying as healthy as she can be.

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, like Valley Children’s, are unique. They are special. It is because the people on the inside genuinely care about the happiness and wellbeing of every child who walks in. So when you donate that dollar or round up your total, you’re directly helping kids like Norah. Every cent goes to helping the patients — kids who simply want to be as healthy as possible so that they can dance, play, cheer, or even participate in pageants.

On behalf of the patients, families, staff and physicians at Valley Children’s Hospital, thank you for donating to our cause of helping sick and injured kids all over the Central Valley!
